Neon signs over the market row, people moving through the crowd,
the open plaza at the center. Above it all, the town core
hangs there glowing. Every light down here runs off it.

The sky splits open
A vast alien ship comes down. What drops out of it punches
straight through the south wall of the reactor bay,
and the town is taken in minutes.

They take the doctor
The first thing they came for wasn't people — it was the doctor.
The only one who ever studied the core. They dragged him down to the
server vault and strapped him to a chair.
